At the breakfast terrace, I exchange stories about yesterday’s experiences. The crocodile tour went well. Some travel companions are experiencing a bit of digestive discomfort, but that probably has nothing to do with yesterday’s excursion.
They decide not to go snorkeling at Half Moon Bay. With a smaller group, I later drive north by taxi. About twenty kilometers away lies a beautiful bay where I can also snorkel. The taxi driver, Patrick, drives briskly. He regularly overtakes cars at high speed, and it isn’t long before I arrive at the entrance of Half Moon Bay. The Belgian owner welcomes me. In Dutch, she explains that the entrance costs five dollars and that I can also rent a snorkel set from her. The beach and bay are stunning. The beach is shaped in a half-circle, which explains its name. I lay my towel on a beach chair and put on my snorkeling gear. The seawater has a pleasant temperature. I let myself drift with the waves while watching the underwater life.
There isn’t much coral left. Along the edges, small pieces of coral remain. Much of it has already lost its color. Tiny fish swim among the coral, searching for food. I see numerous sea urchins on the seabed and swim carefully over them. Back on the beach, I pick up my book. Reading on the beach is wonderfully relaxing. At the bar, I order a sandwich and a beer. A little later, my order is delivered to the beach. In the afternoon, I go snorkeling again. I see much the same as this morning. Admittedly, I’ve snorkeled in more beautiful places, but it’s always fun to snorkel in the sea. At five o’clock, Patrick is ready with his taxi again. With the same sporty driving style as this morning, I head back to the Coral Seas Beach Resort. Back in my hotel room, I notice my back is slightly sunburned. I shouldn’t have snorkeled without a T-shirt today. Fortunately, it’s not too severe. In the evening, I go to eat at the Legends restaurant on the beach.
