At a quarter to eight, I set off for the game drive. We go out in two jeeps. Along the way, the jeeps stay close together so that everyone gets to see the same wildlife. My driver, Jafta, is in the lead. Just as we leave the campsite, I already spot a few buffaloes, impalas, and wildebeests. When Jafta turns east, I see giraffes walking. Zebras cross the road (quite fittingly), but we no longer see the second jeep. Even when we turn back and head to the previous meeting point, the other group is nowhere to be found. Strangely, there’s no radio contact. Jafta assumes they took the other road, and we drive the same route we did yesterday. We don’t find the other jeep there either, but we do see plenty of animals: groups of giraffes right next to the road, waterbucks, buffaloes, and kudus. At the watering hole, a giraffe is just taking a drink. It’s quite funny to watch how it bends its knees.
