Jamaica > Uncertainty about the flight

Dag 15 - Friday, March 17, 2017

The uncertainty hasn’t improved. TUIfly’s website still shows the original departure time. When I click through, a probably newer departure time appears. Which one is correct? Based on this time, the plane is already over an hour delayed. Breakfast is also slow. It starts at a quarter to eight. Ellen’s efforts to have breakfast served earlier have had no effect. My order isn’t taken until eight o’clock. Because of the plane’s delay, we can also leave a bit later. This allows everyone to order and eat breakfast at a relaxed pace. The waitress also looks relieved, as she had already realized she wouldn’t manage to serve everyone before half past eight. At a quarter past nine, Kelly drives up with the large bus.

He steps out triumphantly. He enjoys seeing the group again. He drives me to the airport in just over an hour. I join the long queue at the TUI counter. Progress is slow. A hostess explains that a new plane from TUI Belgium has been assigned, so previously issued seat reservations are no longer guaranteed. TUI’s computer system is currently not working. I receive a five-dollar voucher for the wait. Once the counters are operational again, checking in proceeds relatively smoothly. I pass through customs and redeem my voucher at the sports café. Around half past one, the TUI Belgium plane lands. Passengers bound for Jamaica disembark. Then I can board. Around half past two, I take off for Punta Cana. I’m on my way home. At Punta Cana airport, I have to disembark again. The plane is cleaned and a new crew comes on board. The flight attendant explains that the Dreamliner, my original plane, is broken and another TUI Netherlands plane has just completed its maintenance. To avoid further delays, TUI Belgium is stepping in. For him, this means a long flight, and tomorrow he flies back again. Normally, he would stay here for two days. By bus, I am brought to the arrivals hall. I pass the baggage check and join the line to check in again. A little later, the bus takes me back to the plane. After the meal, I try to get some sleep.
