Around three o’clock we return to the temples by bus. We get off at the most famous one: Angkor Wat. In the late afternoon light, the temple is at its most beautiful. Angkor Wat is striking due to its spectacular architecture. We walk across the stone bridge over the 200-meter-wide moat. Through the entrance gate, we enter the temple. Angkor Wat is as large as 100 football fields and one of the largest religious structures in the world. Unfortunately, that also means lots of tourists. It seems every Korean, Japanese, and Chinese person knows the afternoon light is the best. We shuffle with the crowd toward the central temple. From the old library, it’s the perfect photo opportunity. The reflection of the towers in the water is probably the most photographed angle of Angkor Wat. It’s quite tricky to take a photo without some tourists in the frame. Through the colonnade, we reach the bas-reliefs. It’s very crowded with tour groups, and our guide does his best to explain all the carvings.
