Carefully, we step into the mokoros two by two. Daniel is pushing our mokoro. He has it tough with two hefty people on board. This also means we sit lower in the water. Daniel pushes the mokoro through the reeds and along the narrow water channel. The marsh is beautiful, with reeds, aquatic plants, and sunshine. Along the way, we see many birds, and an osprey flies overhead. We are in the lead, but Daniel lets the other mokoros go ahead. This way, the vegetation is already pushed aside, making it easier for our canoe to pass through. Still, he has to use a lot of strength. Now and then, water flows into the mokoro when he pushes hard. I’m at the front and don’t notice much, but Theo is already starting to get wet.
