A Road Trip Through Europe

Prizren is the second-largest city in the country, with a charming old centre. Our guesthouse is located near the centre. In the narrow streets, we cannot immediately find the address—it is certainly not where the navigation says it should be. A helpful boy checks online and walks with us to the guesthouse. Then comes the tricky part: manoeuvring the car onto the courtyard. There are already five cars parked in the small space, and our rooftop tent just barely fits under the grapevines. The old town centre is centred around the Our Lady of Ljeviš Church and the Sinan Pasha Mosque. Behind them lies the Prizren Fortress on the hill. Dark clouds gather behind the fortress. We quickly wander through the streets of the old town. Terraces are set up everywhere, and I wonder whether the city attracts enough visitors to fill them all. For us, there is certainly plenty of choice to order a drink—and perhaps take shelter from the rain. And the rain does come. Just as we sit down on a terrace, a downpour bursts loose. In no time, the square is flooded. Even the waiters start taking photos. Such extreme weather probably doesn’t happen here often.
