To reach the boat trip, I first have to ride in a truck. I climb into the open vehicle, which has thirty seats. As we drive toward the starting point, a park employee tells us about the waterfalls, various trees, and animals. At the river, I’m handed a life vest and a waterproof bag for my belongings. I try to squeeze my backpack in. A staff member helps, carefully sealing the bag. That’s important—nothing stays dry under the waterfall. I board the speedboat. Two 200-hp engines propel us upstream. The sun shines and the view of the cascading water is fantastic from below. Perhaps this is the best view of the Iguazú Falls. I quickly snap a photo and store my camera. The captain steers the boat directly into the San Martin Falls. Water crashes down on the boat.
