The gorge leading to Petra is lit with hundreds of candles. We walk toward it in the dark. Above us is a magnificent starry sky. We decide to let the other participants go ahead and hang back. This makes the experience even more special. We walk into the candle-lit gorge. I soak in the atmosphere and am deeply impressed. The gorge is 1,200 meters long. As we near the end, we already hear the sound of a flutist. The first glimpse of the Treasury is fantastic — the 43-meter-high temple, carved entirely from rock, lit by candlelight, and accompanied by the sound of a flute. Amazing! It’s so beautiful! Like everyone else, I sit down in the sand and am immediately offered a cup of tea. I try to take a photo of the scene, but it doesn’t really work out. I decide to put away the camera and just take it all in. Beautiful!
