Eswatini (Swaziland) - South Africa Swaziland Lesotho

South Africa Swaziland Lesotho

16 nov - 9 dec 2007 (24 days)

In the afternoon, I head out with guide December. He’s called December because he was born on December 25th. We walk into the village via narrow paths. At the wide sandy road, we turn left, leaving the village again. Along the way, December gives lots of information about the village and life in Swaziland. My visit doesn’t go unnoticed here either. I’m soon accompanied by a large group of schoolchildren on their way home—or maybe they’re just taking a detour to walk along. Again, everyone politely says goodbye one by one. The last boy turns out to be an orphan, raised by his grandmother. December shows me their yard. The grandmother comes walking up and disapproves of the women’s short shorts. But when Rogier gives her a polo shirt, she’s very grateful. I say goodbye and continue walking. At the end of the road, I reach a large pasture. This is where all the community’s animals are kept. The donkeys seem to have claimed the vegetable garden as their own.
