Romania - A week-long road trip through Romania with a rental car. From the capital Bucharest, we drive via the impressive Transfagarasan mountain pass to Alba Iulia, Turda, and Cluj-Napoca. On the eastern side of the Fagaras Mountains, we reach the castles of Bran, Pelisor, and Peles via Sighisoara. The journey ends back in Bucharest.

Serbia - From the church, we walk across the wooden bridge into the Kalemegdan Fortress. From the tower, there’s a beautiful view of the city and the Danube River. Under the trees of the fortress, we enjoy an ice cream. Afterwards, we exit the walled fortress on the other side. We descend to the bank of the Sava River. This river flows into the Danube.

China - China is best known for the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, and the Terracotta Army in Xi’an. During the trip from Beijing to Hong Kong, I also explored lesser-known areas such as the monasteries of Labrang and Langmusi, and cities like Shangri-La, Lijiang, and Dali. In Yangshuo, I ended my China adventure with a bamboo raft ride through the karst mountains, before spending the final days in Hong Kong.

Indonesia - Compared to Java and Bali, the Lesser Sunda Islands are far less touristy. This gives islands like Flores, Sumbawa, and Lombok a unique charm. On Komodo Island, the famous Komodo dragons roam. These giant lizards can grow up to three meters long. The journey ends on the delightful island of Gili Air, one of the three Gili Islands.

Then sailing westward past the Dominican Republic to Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao. The journey ends in Grenada, before flying home via Barbados.

UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait

Qatar - The new year begins with a journey through the countries along the Persian Gulf. In Dubai, I board the MSC Euribia, the newest cruise ship in the fleet. From Dubai, we sail to Doha in Qatar, Manama in Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, and Sir Bani Yas Island. After a week, the cruise returns to Dubai, followed by a few days in Kuwait City.

Tunisia - The tour through Tunisia is a wonderfully varied mix of Roman and Byzantine-era sights and modern-day life in the medinas. The ancient ruins in Carthage, Dougga, and El Djem are particularly impressive. In the desert, you’ll find the Chebika Oasis, the salt lake near Tozeur, and even a filming location from the Star Wars movie.

Turkey - In the sixteenth century, Sultan Murat III added the Harem to the Topkapi Palace. We pass through various chambers once used by the sultans. The Sultan’s Chamber is the largest and perhaps most beautiful room in the Harem. From his throne, the sultan could observe the entertainment in this room. What a magnificent sight.

Corsica, the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte, has a rich history and charming towns like Ajaccio and Bastia. The island is a paradise for nature lovers, with its impressive mountainous interior.

Along the way, we enjoy stunning beaches and lush rainforests, as well as the onboard entertainment.
