I walk back to the central square to quickly grab something to eat and withdraw dollars for the coming days. I have to hurry to leave enough time for the waterfall. It turns out it's not safe to walk there on my own. So I have to ask the police station for an escort. The first attempt fails due to the language barrier. When the driver joins me, it works out. Two police officers board the bus and accompany me to the waterfall. Unfortunately, they only speak Spanish. From what I understand, I can first visit the mirador overlooking the lake and then the cascada. At the viewpoint, I cautiously ask if I can take their picture. That’s no problem. The younger officer especially seems to enjoy the little outing. With one officer leading and the other behind, I walk to the waterfall. The water crashes over hexagonal basalt columns. It’s remarkable how these shapes can naturally form in the stone.
