Uruguay Argentina and Brazil

26 sept - 20 okt 2019 (25 days)

At ten o’clock, Alex is ready. He takes the group on a walking tour of Buenos Aires. At Plaza de Mayo, he shares the history of the buildings surrounding the square: the cathedral, the colonial El Cabildo, and the most important—Casa Rosada. From its balcony, the popular Evita Duarte de Perón, wife of President Juan Perón, addressed the Argentine people in the late 1940s. “Don’t cry for me, Argentina.” Dictator Jorge Videla also ruled his terror regime from here. The square often hosts protests—almost daily, in fact. Police can block off parts of the square with fencing as a precaution. Even the cathedral entrance is surrounded by barriers to protect it during protests.

Tour of Patagonia

The glacier looks stunning in the sunlight. From the boat, the view only gets better. In some places, the ice wall is sixty meters high. The ice glows white and blue. Due to the pressure of the ice, oxygen is squeezed out, giving the glacier its intense blue color. With my camera at the ready, I try to capture falling chunks of ice — an impossible task. By the time you hear it, you’re already too late. On the other side, we disembark for a glacier hike. At the glacier, spikes are strapped to my new shoes, and soon we set off with Koeni and Ilisa. Ilisa explains that you need to walk with your feet slightly turned outward. When going downhill, you should lean back a bit. It takes a few steps to get used to it, but soon it feels easy. Walking on the glacier is an incredible experience.
