From the top of the volcano, I have a view of the smaller volcano. Franklin brushes aside the top layer of rocks and lets me feel the ground. It’s scorching hot. Beneath my feet, the volcano is still active. After taking photos of the volcano and the view from all sides, it’s time for the fun part. I put on my overall, strap on the knee and elbow pads, and put on the dust goggles. Franklin explains how to steer the sled. I can brake with my feet, and if I want to go faster, I need to lift the front of the sled slightly. Sitting at the top of the slope on my sled, the hill looks steep. I cautiously slide over the first few meters. I quickly get the hang of it and glide down the mountain on my sled. I lift the front a bit to gain extra speed. The descent kicks up a lot of dust. A true dust storm flies over me.
