Spain - Roundtrip Andalusia

Roundtrip Andalusia

14 - 25 maart 2026 (12 days)

The Mezquita-Catedral of Córdoba is one of the most remarkable monuments in Córdoba and reflects the rich history of Andalusia. Originally built as a mosque in the 8th century under the Islamic Caliphate, the structure was converted into a cathedral after the Christian reconquest in the 13th century. Inside, the impressive forest of red-and-white arches immediately stands out, resting on hundreds of columns made of marble and granite. This unique design creates an almost endless space that feels both serene and monumental. At the heart of the building lies the Christian nave, with a richly decorated altar area that contrasts sharply with the surrounding Islamic architecture. The Mezquita-Catedral symbolizes the meeting of two cultures and religions. It is not only a religious center but also an architectural masterpiece that attracts millions of visitors each year and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Spain - City Trip Bilbao

City Trip Bilbao

20-23 september 2014 (4 days)

Many joggers brave the rain and run along the boulevard. The Guggenheim Museum looks rather forlorn in the drizzle. In the twilight, the Maman spider sculpture reflects off the wet tiled ground. I try to get a good photo in the low light while keeping my camera dry—a tricky task. The museum’s lighting itself is somewhat disappointing. For dinner, I opt for a tapas bar crawl. I order my first pintxo in a little bar near the museum. I point at the sandwich I want on the counter. I repeat this in two other cafés on the way back to my hotel.

Spain - City Trip Madrid

City Trip Madrid

30 apr 2011 - 4 mei 2011 (5 days)

The Spanish capital Madrid, with over three million residents, is one of Europe’s largest cities. Yet it radiates a cozy, intimate atmosphere across its many squares. Artists on Plaza Mayor, street performers on Plaza del Sol, or locals enjoying tapas on Plaza de Colón—there’s life everywhere. Key attractions include the Palacio Real (Royal Palace), the Retiro Park, the Archaeological Museum, and three world-renowned art museums: the Prado Museum, the Reina Sofía Museum, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. The El Rastro flea market, the Teatro Real, and the long shopping street Gran Vía are also well worth visiting.

By now, the weather has become pleasant, and I decide to walk to the Sagrada Família. It’s about 2½ kilometers through the city. Along the way, I pass the zoo and several parks. In the park near the Estació del Nord, I order a baguette sandwich. Then I continue walking toward the Sagrada Família. From far away, the tops of the enormous cathedral are already visible. The famous towers of Antoni Gaudí rise far above the city. Luckily, the line at the entrance isn’t too bad, and soon I’m standing inside the Sagrada Família.

Spain - City Trip Barcelona

Barcelona is known for its excellent food and wine, with a wide range of tapas bars, restaurants, and local markets. And if you want to relax, you can enjoy the beautiful beaches and the Mediterranean sun. In short, Barcelona offers something for everyone.
