November 2004 (15 days)

Egypt > A day at the beach

Dag 13 - Friday, November 26, 2004

I sleep in nicely, until after nine o’clock. I’m feeling much better right away. I carefully take a bit of food at breakfast. After that, we head to the beach. The resort, where we were practically the only guests last night, has now been taken over by about a hundred day visitors from Hurghada. They’ve come to enjoy the bay.

Because of that, we all sit together under one parasol. It’s quite windy again today, so we have to stay low to the ground. Meanwhile, the tourists from Hurghada are being led around on camels along the beach. In the afternoon, we go snorkeling in the sea. This time I go a lot farther than yesterday. The coral here is even more beautiful and especially more colorful. Meanwhile, some members of our group are taking a diving lesson. It’s already quite late in the afternoon when we have lunch at the parasol bar. Around four o’clock I return to my room and take a nap on the bed — preparation for the long night that awaits us. At eight o’clock there’s the buffet dinner. I stick to soup, water, and bread. During this dinner, we also thank our driver Camel and give him a tip. After dinner, everyone goes back to their rooms for two to two and a half hours of sleep. The alarm is set for half past midnight for our journey to Cairo. To join the convoy of day-trippers from Hurghada, we have to be in Hurghada around three o’clock. That means leaving no later than one o’clock.
