Cuba - Many activities on the beach

At nine o’clock, we meet for the breakfast buffet, though most of us arrive a little later. After breakfast, we walk to the beach and settle on a sunbed. Together with Leo, I stroll along the beach past the other resorts. Once we reach the area where there are no more resorts, the amount of litter on the beach increases noticeably. After about three-quarters of an hour, when we can’t go any further, we turn around and walk back to the Sol Cayo Coco Hotel. Time for a drink on the beach.

With Hannie’s snorkel, I go snorkeling with Geert. The underwater world remains fascinating: budding coral (the larger coral formations can be visited by boat, but we skip that) and schools of thousands of fish. These schools are being chased by a few larger fish. It’s a spectacular sight when a school of fish swims directly toward you. I try to capture the scene with my underwater camera. After lunch at the beach bar, we take a catamaran sailing trip on the sea, which is also included with the hotel stay. The afternoon wind has picked up nicely, so we sail along the beach at a good speed. After about half an hour, the skipper returns to the beach. The sun is beginning to show its effect, and some parts of the body are already turning red. Usually, I’m already too late — especially snorkeling just under the water surface is a recipe for sunburn. Toward the end of the afternoon, I retrieve my camera from the hotel room to take some photos of Cayo Coco. On the beach, I meet Sarah, Geert, and Hannie. Sarah goes parasailing, and we walk along to watch. Hannie decides to join, and shortly after, Geert does too.

I borrow some money from Geert and decide to go as well. The parachute is towed by a boat to over 300 meters in the air, offering a stunning view of the entire island. Once at height, the parachute is released, and it glides smoothly back to the beach. The instructor ensures a perfect, soft landing exactly at the takeoff point. Although it looks frightening from the ground, the whole flight is pure enjoyment and not scary at all. Overall, it’s an incredible experience. Later, on the poolside terrace, we have a drink and freshen up. I realize I’m quite sunburned on my back and calves, so I try to cool off under the cold shower. In the evening, we eat at the buffet restaurant, and today I decide to go to bed early.
