Mozambique > Enjoying the bay of Tofo

Dag 4 - Sunday, November 8, 2009

Today I sleep in. Breakfast isn’t until nine o’clock. Bas has emphasized that we must not get used to this, as it’s the only time. It had been very windy during the night, and it is still blowing hard this morning. It is not possible to go out to sea in the zodiacs to snorkel. Unfortunately. I only now fully realize how unique the sharks are and that only at this location can you swim so close to the coast with these creatures.

The whale shark is the largest fish species in the world. They can grow up to 12 meters long. Whale sharks swim just below the water’s surface and move relatively slowly. As long as you are careful of the powerful tail, you can safely snorkel with these animals. But not today. As an alternative, we walk along the beach, swim in the clear waters of the bay in the Indian Ocean, and later order a drink at a beach bar. What a beautiful view over the azure water! We walk back through the center of the small village of Tofo. We visit the local market, which has a lot of wood carvings. After lunch, we look for internet. The beach has become much busier now. It is Sunday, and many locals gather on the beach or play a game of football. We stroll along the crystal-clear sea. A truly paradisiacal sight. In the same beach tent as this morning, I send an email to family back home. We end the afternoon on the terrace at the resort. The entire travel group comes together here. We stay until the meal is ready.
