India > Delayed in Frankfurt

Dag 9 - Tuesday, 14 November 2023

I take a seat in the Sports Café and order a beer. The waiter comes over and asks if I want a second beer. Although it sounds tempting, I decide not to. I still have a long journey ahead. I pay with my last rupees and cover the remaining amount with my credit card. My money exchange worked out well — it was just enough. I walk to the gate, which turns out to be quite a walk. At the gate, the flight to Frankfurt is further delayed. Apparently, a storm swept across Western Europe this afternoon, causing significant delays on the outbound flight. I can’t really get too upset about it, as I’ve already been rebooked for the connecting flight. At around four in the morning, I’m allowed to board. Once the plane takes off, I recline my seat and rest my head against the wall. Although I normally hardly sleep on board, I fall asleep quickly this time. I wake up when the cabin lights come back on.

India - The holiday is over

The inflight entertainment system isn’t working, so I can’t see how long the flight to Frankfurt will still take. I expect we’ll land around nine o’clock, which is about the scheduled departure time of my original connecting flight. Breakfast is served: eggs and sausages. After breakfast, the plane begins its descent. At Frankfurt Airport, I walk from terminal B to terminal A. My new flight to Amsterdam isn’t until 12:40 and isn’t yet shown on the departure boards. There is a long line at customs, but luckily I can use the automatic passport scanner, where there’s no queue. Due to the delay, I received a voucher from Lufthansa that allows me to spend fifteen euros on food and drink at the airport. I buy a sandwich and coffee. The cashier recommends I also get a chocolate bar to use up the voucher fully. Afterwards, I board my flight to Amsterdam.
