November 212 2017 (11 days)
The alarm goes off early. At exactly seven o’clock we are already in the breakfast room. The buffet has just opened. No surprise that we are the first guests of the day. Half an hour later we load our luggage into the car for the last time and drive out of the parking garage of the Ibis Styles hotel. It is Sunday morning and extremely quiet in the city. At a steady pace we drive out of town and head for the motorway. Today’s travel distance is 993 kilometers. After two hundred kilometers we cross the Polish–German border. A little further on we reach the A10, the ring road around Berlin. We drove this road last week as well, on our way to Poznan. On Sundays there is no truck traffic on German highways, which makes things a lot easier. Along the way we stop a few times to refuel and for toilet breaks. By late afternoon we cross back into the Netherlands. Just before Amersfoort we end up in a traffic jam. An accident has occurred. It strikes us only now that throughout all of Germany and Poland we didn’t encounter a single traffic jam on the motorways. At the roadside restaurant along the A4 we end the trip with a meal. After having driven 3,506 kilometers, we are back home again.
