Austria > The last ski day

Dag 8 - Friday, 4 March 2022

The last day of skiing has already arrived. We finish this final day in the Kössen ski area. Since I only skied here during the first two days, I still need to buy a day pass for this area. The ticket office has just opened. Quickly, we take the gondola up. I promised Renske that I would ski all the way from the top to the bottom with her without stopping along the way. Nienke joins us too. At a steady pace, we weave down the slopes. We reach the bottom without any problems. There’s Fred waiting. He has a sore foot. Yesterday, when he took off his ski boots, he felt a sharp pain in his calf. It doesn’t feel right for him to ski today. Around lunchtime, everyone gathers here. We eat together inside at the Zigi bar. In the afternoon, we ski one last time.

We take some runs that we haven’t done yet — usually short sections between two main slopes. At half past three, I’ve had enough for this year. I click out of my skis and return them to the rental shop. Fred is still sitting on the terrace. He knows several people here, and many want to have shots with him. I end the afternoon with a beer. For the last evening, we go back to restaurant Raider in Kössen. We also ate there on Tuesday. The same table is reserved for us. The group sitting next to us was also in the restaurant on Tuesday. I end the week with a Parisian schnitzel. After dinner, I take my luggage to the car. Tomorrow morning, I’ll be driving early. I hope to avoid the traffic jams. I set my alarm for quarter to four and go to sleep.
