Travelogue Winter Sports in Kssen

February 25 March 5 2022 (9 days)

Austria > Ski area Steinplatte

Dag 7 - Thursday, 3 March 2022

The ski lessons have finished. This means we can all go skiing together in a different ski area. We drive in two cars for about fifteen minutes to Steinplatte. With a day pass for this area, we soon get on the gondola. Unlike many other ski areas, Steinplatte does not have a run that goes all the way down to the valley. This means we have to take the gondola down again this afternoon. At the top, there are several pistes—mostly long and not too steep. It quickly becomes clear that the girls have made great progress during their lessons. They follow the piste at a nice pace. It is also their first time riding an eight-person chairlift. The automatic safety bar and the heated seats are new to them as well. After a few runs, we take the chairlift to the very top of the Steinplatte itself. This is the highest point of the ski area. Steinplatte lies exactly on the border between Austria and Germany. We ski towards the border. A long run leads down to the German side of the ski area. It’s already one o’clock, and we still need to eat. We return to the Austrian side. At Stallenalm, it’s busy—the entire terrace is full. We decide to go to the Kammerkör viewpoint. There’s also a large restaurant here. Outside, all the seats are taken—understandable with this lovely weather.

Inside, we find two tables next to each other. The restaurant is self-service. Even though it’s half past one, there’s still a long line. We really enjoy the Tiroler Grösti. After eating, we ski a few more pistes. We agree to meet again at quarter to four. This means we can split up, allowing us to take the last two runs at full speed. Just on time, we join the queue for the gondola. It was a wonderful day with beautiful weather. It’s fun to ski in this area. In the evening, I go to eat with Fred and Berlinda. After all, I’ve already eaten twice with the neighbors. A delicious meal is ready, and it’s nice to eat in their apartment.
