February 25 March 5 2022 (9 days)
The day starts again with a great breakfast. I tell Erica that she doesn’t need to put out the sweets for me. That way, she won’t have to set them on the table in the coming days. There is plenty of cheese and cold cuts on the table. At half past eight, we drive to the ski area again. It seems a bit less busy than yesterday. On weekends, many day-trippers from Germany also come here to ski. The parking lot is slippery. The melted snow from yesterday has frozen again. Before I realize it, I slip on the ice. My elbow breaks the fall. Fortunately, I get away without injury. It could have ended differently. Today, Nienke, Renske, Simone, and Fiene have ski lessons. Around ten o’clock, they have to ski individually in a slalom. Based on their level, they are assigned to a ski group. Nienke, Renske, and Simone are together. Only Fiene is placed in a higher group. She finds that as much fun as not fun. Of course, it would have been nice if they were all together, but an advanced group is also fun. The ski groups head out with their instructors. We also take the gondola to enter the ski area again.
The ski groups have lunch in the Scheibenwalthütte — one group at twelve o’clock, the other at half past twelve. After a few runs, we make sure to secure a table at Scheibenwalthütte by noon. The girls can also eat with their ski group, but it’s more fun with us. Especially since not all the kids are Dutch and the ski instructor isn’t either. After lunch, we take a few more slopes. Today the weather is beautiful again. Because the temperature is around freezing, the snow stays good. Only at the very bottom does the snow start to get a bit slushy in the afternoon. The De Vos family is going out to eat today to celebrate grandpa’s birthday. Ron, José, and I already did the shopping yesterday for today. We only need to get some meat. At the local butcher, we buy some schnitzels and cordon bleus. Fred and Berlinda also gave us a shopping list. Back at the farmhouse, the order turns out different than expected. Probably the pronunciation wasn’t clear. Tonight, besides the schnitzels, we’re having rösti rounds and peas. Fortunately, the electricity still works tonight.
