May 30 June 1 2020 (3 days)
The last day has already arrived. The breakfast room is much quieter than yesterday. Could there be fewer guests today? The friendliness, however, is no less. Enthusiastically, the tray is filled with our choices. The young man who is supposed to place the tray on the table is still getting used to it. He hands the tray to us—this wasn’t quite the intended way. He quickly receives instructions. After breakfast, we pack our luggage again. Our little weekend in Zutphen has come to an end—at least, as far as the visit to this Hanseatic city is concerned. From Zutphen, we drive in just under half an hour to Dieren, on the edge of the Veluwezoom nature reserve. Online, we found a beautiful walk from Dieren to the Posbank. The starting point is a bit tricky to find. A man walking his dog helps us locate the correct path in the forest. After that, the route follows naturally.
The path is simply marked by someone and runs over narrow trails, so we hardly encounter other walkers. Via the Koningspad—a beech-lined path once used by kings—we reach the Posbank. Exactly at twelve o’clock, we join the line to get something to drink. From today, COVID restrictions have been eased again. Since noon, terraces are allowed to open. As the second couple, we take a seat at the tables. It still feels a little unfamiliar. The route continues across the heath of the Posbank. Back in the forest, the walk continues toward Middachten Castle. Via Ellecom and De Steeg, we return to Dieren after 18 kilometers. We have enjoyed a beautiful journey through the Veluwezoom and were blessed with wonderful weather. In the afternoon, we drive westward again, looking back on a successful weekend getaway.
