4 - 18 december 2003 (15 days)
After breakfast I walk back to the ATM. Fortunately, this time it is working. I have cash again. At nine o’clock we are picked up in front of our hotel by a small minibus. A little further on, other participants are also collected from their hotels. Then we leave Jomtien and set off. Other minibuses have picked up people from different hotels as well. The bus ride to the boat takes longer than I expected. We sit in the bus for about an hour before arriving in Ban Phe. Here the other minibuses also arrive. At the Malibu Travel office we wait for a short while.
After about fifteen minutes we can head to the boat. We walk onto the pier and are photographed once again. No doubt another picture will follow in a decorative frame. The boat takes us to the island of Ko Samet, a few kilometers off the coast. The sea is calm and the sun is shining. When we reach the island, the boat circles around it to arrive at Malibu Bay. Here we transfer to a small boat, a kind of landing craft, which brings us to the beach. The last few meters I have to walk through the water because the boat cannot come ashore. On the beach, deckchairs are ready and there is a bar with a restaurant. I read my book while sitting in a beach chair and occasionally swim in the sea. Around one o’clock it is lunchtime. Lunch is included. At a long table, the food is served. Next to us sit some Russians, cheerfully drinking vodka. They also offer me a glass of vodka. In the afternoon we take a walk across the island. In fact, there is only one sandy road running across the island. From here, all the resorts can be reached. We pass through the resorts, walk along the beaches, and eventually return to our own bay. At four o’clock we board again for the return trip. The boat brings us back to Ban Phe, where the minibuses are waiting to take us back to our hotel. In the evening we dine in Jomtien and have coffee at the sports café. Afterwards we return to our hotel.
