Travelogue Weekend in Oostkapelle

April 25 2021 (4 days)

Netherlands > Schouwen-Duiveland

Dag 4 - Monday 5 April 2021

The last day has arrived. Breakfast is brought at quarter to nine. Once again, there is nothing to complain about today. After breakfast, we pack our belongings and check out. The weather forecast for today is much less favorable than the past few days: a strong northwest wind and frequent showers. We pass the Oosterschelde storm surge barrier and drive to Westenschouwen on Schouwen-Duiveland. This small coastal village is part of the municipality of Burgh-Haamstede. Although there is a risk of being caught in a heavy shower, we decide to do the eight-kilometer walk through the Schouwen-Duiveland nature reserve.

Netherlands - A walk through Westerschouwen

We follow the yellow markers of the Schuilhuttenpad through the dune area. The eight-kilometer route runs through a beautiful area with hundred-year-old woodland and several small fens. Although it is chilly during the walk, no real rain shower occurs. The last stretch we walk back along the North Sea beach. There is a strong wind. In the forest, we hadn’t noticed it as much. Fortunately, the wind is at our backs. The sand blows between our feet over the beach. Around half past one, we are back at the car. The weekend is over. In just over an hour, we drive back to Delft.
