June 35 2022 (3 days)
The downside of a city trip is that the last day comes around quickly again. Before breakfast, we place all the things we bought on the breakfast table. We get fresh bread from the bakery. At ten o’clock, we have to leave the apartment. That should be doable. We wash the dishes, tidy up the living room, and take off the bedding. We take the trash to the container across the street. Exactly at ten o’clock, we leave the apartment. The cleaning crew is already waiting at the door. We walk to the city center for the last time. This time, we head to the new town. We follow Princes Street toward Calton Hill park. On this prominent hill stand several monuments inspired by Greek architecture. The view of the Dugald Stewart Monument and the city behind it is the most famous image of Edinburgh. A beautiful location and view to close off our weekend. To get to the airport, we don’t have to go all the way back to the tram stop at West End. Andrew’s Square is closer. This is the starting point of the tram to the airport. After about half an hour, we get off at the airport. It’s exactly twelve o’clock. We still have two hours before our flight departs. There is quite a line at the hand luggage control, but there are also many gates available. We still have enough time to eat and drink something. Here we also spend the last of our pounds. The EasyJet app reports a delay of nearly an hour. Bummer. Shortly after, the notification disappears. The flight will depart on time. What would be nice? Around a quarter to two, boarding starts. A queue forms in the jet bridge. We wait for more than half an hour. When we can board, it turns out the pilot isn’t here yet. The pilot has to come from Glasgow and is delayed. Around half past three, he arrives. He apologizes on behalf of EasyJet. With over an hour and a half delay, we take off toward the Netherlands.
